Today I am posting the “Call for Speakers” for a new conference, “The Hashtag Economy” to be held on December 3, 2014 in New York City. The core focus of this event is “how the advent of the hashtag is changing the face of business.”

I have spent the year obsessed with Instagram and have learned a lot about how hashtags are used for listening, connecting, sharing and engaging inside of Instagram. This is an extension to my past obsessions of living inside of Facebook and on Twitter. Feel free to join me on Instagram at:

The Hashtag Economy will look across business sectors into various vertical markets which have adopted the use of hashtags as key part of their marketing message. I believe that hashtags are the new Jingle. In the future hashtags will be the “catch phrase” and the jingles which some of us have ingrained in our heads forever will be yet another experience which does not transfer to the next generation.

Marketers will need to find other channels to connect with us. I believe the Hashtag Economy is already a multi-billion dollar business. Maybe more. These days Hashtags are already driving commerce, driving “discovery”, driving community, tied into pop culture and so much more. I am looking out to my friends and their friends and their contacts for people of like minds who see the and feel the evolution of The Hashtag Economy.

Like my #140conf events, individual talks will be limited to 10 minutes; panels will be short and focused and I will actively curate the conversations so that the day is both full of content and remains fluid.

With today’s “Call for Speakers” I am looking for creative, out-of-the-box thinkers to come forward and pitch me something relevant related to their business they would like to discuss from their respective industry sector. I am interested in people who have experienced the effects of the growth of hashtags in a specific sector and how they feel their future will be impacted as communication technologies continue to evolve.

This event will be taking a look at the continued long term effects of the emerging real-time Internet on business, and systemic changes the worldwide adoption of social media is having on a wide variety of industries and markets.
